Annual Kenridge Invitational golf tournament begins

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The 88th Kenridge Invitational is underway at Farmington Country Club. 

Friday is the first round of the three-day tournament, which brings some the region's top amateur and collegiate golfers to Charlottesville.

This year's field features 102 golfers, including amateurs, mid-amateurs, juniors and collegiate players from 28 different schools.

Nine champions are also returning to compete, including Michael Lee, who set the course record at the tournament last year. 

“It's absolutely the biggest tournament that we have during the year," said Karen Edwards, president of FCC. "They do such a incredible job it just looks effortless to all of us.”

This year's tournament is powered by a record number of volunteers, with more than 100 members and staff helping run the event.

“We truly run the entire thing in house and I think that's what makes it so special and what makes players want to come back to this event. We really focus on the details and try to make it so enjoyable," said Tessa Collins with FCC.
